Job Description

Reports to the Community Outreach and Mobility Manager

Primary Objective of Position

The Community Outreach & Mobility Specialist position is responsible for administration of the Dial-a-Ride application process including assessment and determination of eligibility for Dial-a-Ride service. This position will plan and implement one-to-one, small group and classroom training sessions, community outreach, and external marketing of Metro Bus services.

Essential Functions of the Position

Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or logical to the position.

1. Evaluate, assess and determine applicant eligibility for Dial-a-Ride service.

  • Evaluate applications and conduct ongoing eligibility assessments for the Dial-a-Ride program through a process of interviews, cognitive testing, functional assessment and coordination with medical professionals to determine applicant eligibility.
  • Provide support and coordinate activities of the Dial-a-Ride Appeal and Advisory Committee.

2. Plan and implement community outreach, training and external marketing of Metro Bus services

  • Provide community outreach and marketing services to educational institutions, businesses, agencies, organizations and residential facilities to promote Metro Bus services.
  • Plan, develop and implement specific training programs to introduce Metro Bus services to individuals and groups throughout the service area.
  • Work with community partners to ensure bus passes and schedules are adequately maintained.
  • Serve on community committees and task forces.

3. Advise the Community Outreach & Mobility Manager of issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

4. Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functions.

5. Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.

  • Knows and follows safety rules and guidelines as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss;
  • Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work;
  • When potentially unsafe conditions are observed, makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.

6. Performs other duties and activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The job requires a minimum of two (2) years of education from a college or university with concentration in health and human services, education, rehabilitation, marketing or public relations or related field and two (2) years of experience directly related to the essential functions of the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility is also required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality;
  • Ability to establish and maintain enthusiastic and effective working and public relationships;
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with coworkers and the general public;
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to community groups;
  • Ability to prepare and complete written reports and documents in a concise, complete and legible manner and maintain a comprehensive set of records;
  • Technology and/or equipment skills including; Microsoft Word, Office, Excel, understanding of agency software and ability to design and create visual presentations.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Job Description

Reports to the Maintenance Manager

Primary Objective of Position

The Mechanic position is responsible for mechanical repair and maintenance of CNG, diesel, and gasoline transit vehicles and other mechanical equipment.

Essential Functions of the Position

1. Responsible for performing mechanical repairs of Metro Bus property.

  • Overhaul and repair motors, brakes, air units, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical assemblies.
  • Diagnose operating difficulties and make repairs on a variety of hydraulic, engine, air and electrical systems, air conditioning, digital video and fare box.
  • Occasionally fabricate parts no longer available and periodic welding and iron work.
  • Monitor driver write-ups in computerized fleet maintenance system and perform repairs.

2. Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of Metro Bus property.

  • Performs scheduled preventative maintance and repairs on CNG, dielse and gasoline transit vehicles.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on Metro Bus facilities, grounds and equipment.
  • Properly complete maintenance records and forms.

3. Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains respectful working relationships with coworkers and customers in carrying out job functions.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair of light and heavy duty automotive or mechanical equipment;
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade;
  • Ability to interpret and work efficiently from maintenance manuals, charts or written and oral instructions;
  • Proficient in the use of computers and electronic diagnostic programs;
  • Must be able to read and speak English well enough to read technical documents and effectively communicate with team members. Bilingual a plus;
  • Must possess standard mechanic’s tools;
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules including late evenings, early mornings and weekends;
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and/or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, committees and groups; and to diffuse situations and conversations that have escalated beyond normal limits.

The Facility and Bus Cleaner position is responsible for thorough interior cleaning of all Metro Bus facilities, bus fleet and staff vehicles.

Essential Functions of the Position

1. Responsible for the interior cleanliness of all Bus Fleet and Staff Vehicles

  • Cleans all interior surfaces of buses and staff vehicles to include, but not limited to, floors, step wells, ceiling, seats, grab bars, dash, fair box and schedule area;
  • Cleans all interior vehicle windows; and
  • Cleans the driver control area.

2. Responsible for the interior cleanliness of all Metro Bus Facilities

  • General cleaning of lobby, dispatch areas, operator areas, offices, copy rooms, conference rooms, training rooms and hallways;
  • Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming of all Metro Bus facility floors including, but not limited to, offices, hallways and bathrooms;
  • Emptying of all wastebaskets, inserts liners and disposes of all trash into external dumpster;
  • Thorough cleaning of all bathrooms;
  • Wiping down of all flat surfaces; and
  • Occasionally washing windows.
