ABOUT THE BOARD

BOARD MEMBERS

The Metro Bus Board of Commissioners is made up of five members:

Board members traditionally have been either the current elected Mayor or City Council member.

ELECTIONS

Elections are held in July in even numbered years to determine which member will serve as the Board’s Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. A member may nominate themselves or another member to serve a particular position on the Board. A vote among members will determine who wins the nomination.

Mayor | City of St. Cloud

Dave Kleis joined the Metro Bus Board of Commissioners in 2005 after being elected Mayor of St. Cloud.  He is a Magna Cum Laude 1989 graduate of St. Cloud State University, and a nine year veteran of the Air Force and Air Force Reserve.

He served the St. Cloud area in the Minnesota Senate from 1994 through 2005—seven years as Assistant Senate Minority Leader and six years as ranking Minority member on the Senate Crime Prevention Committee.

He established and owns the Central Minnesota Driving Academy since 1991, a driver’s education business that employs 25 people in St. Cloud.

Dave was elected by the St. Cloud community as mayor in November 2005. In June 2007, Governor Pawlenty appointed Mayor Kleis to the Commission on Judicial Selection. He also serves on numerous local boards and committees within the St. Cloud community.

Rick joined the Metro Bus board in 2013. He’s been the Mayor of Waite Park since 2001, and prior to that he served on the City Council for 10 years. He served 12 years in the US Navy and Naval Reserves and is a Vietnam Veteran. Rick also served 21 years as a volunteer firefighter for Waite Park. Rick is married and has two children.

Kurt was appointed to the Metro Bus commission of July 2014, after being elected to the Sauk Rapids City Council in 2013. Kurt is a certified financial planner for Bremer Bank. He’s been an active community member for many years. This is his second stint on the City Council, having served from 2001-2007 the first time. He also is a member of the Catholic Charities of the Dioceses of St. Cloud’s Capital Campaign team and St. Cloud Whitney Center’s Advisory Board. In the past, he’s served on the Sauk Rapids HRA Board, Sauk Rapids Planning Commission, Sauk Rapids Joint Planning Board and St. Peter’s Church Finance Council.

John’s family has long and strong ties to the St. Cloud community. His grandfather was a physician at the St. Cloud Hospital, and his father was a local businessman. Having lived in St. Cloud all his life, he has a solid understanding of its history, its people, and what is needed to keep St. Cloud a strong and vibrant city. John has been a resident of St. Cloud for 58 years and is very familiar with many of the area’s streets, parks, neighborhoods, and businesses.

John has been very active in volunteer organizations, such as Common Hope, as well as serving several years on the school boards at his children’s’ schools and church: Board of Directors at Cathedral High School, member of St. Michael’s Parish, former member of the school board at Sts. Peter, Paul & Michael. In addition, he has been involved with “The Healthy Neighborhood Partnership” organization.
He has been employed at Eich Motor Company for 38 years, and has held and performed various jobs at the dealership: Salesperson, Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Sales Manager, Operations Manager, IT Manager and Community Relations Manager.

Ryan was appointed to the Metro Bus commission in October of 2016 to serve as the Sartell representative. He is the Manager of Account Management at CH Robinson’s Sartell Office. Ryan has served the greater community in many ways over the past 10+ years, most notably as a firefighter for the City of Sartell (since 2008), Sartell City Planning Commission member (since 2012) and United Way Campaign Cabinet member from 2012 – 2015. He is married to his wife Cindy and has two young daughters; Carly and Rory.

Jeff joined the Metro Bus board in 2022. He is a current Sartell City Council member and former Council member in the city of Isanti, MN.  He served 8 ½ years in the United States Navy Reserves. He is the current president of the Sauk Rapids Lions Club. He has a BA Degree in Business Administration from Bethel University in St. Paul. He is also a retired firefighter and former owner of a trucking company. He currently works for Deerwood Bank as a Real Estate Loan officer.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

The St. Cloud Metropolitan Transit Commission meets monthly to conduct business which includes reviewing operating data, budgets and policies. Meetings are open to the public and typically held at 4 PM on the third Tuesday of each month at Metro Bus Operations Center located at 665 Franklin Avenue NE, St. Cloud
