Metro Bus announces Jolly Trolley Food Drive schedule

Local businesses are teaming up for the annual Jolly Trolley food drive Dec. 2-6. The mobile drive is at a different area grocery store from 4-7 pm each night, using a Metro Bus CNG bus as the collection vehicle. The Jolly Trolley benefits food shelves located in the Metro Bus service area: St. Cloud Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and the Promise Neighborhood. Sponsors of the food drive include St. Cloud Metro Bus, Royal Tire and Townsquare Media and North Central Bus and Equipment as well as the grocery stores hosting the drive each night.

“The Jolly Trolley is a way for Metro Bus, as well as our partners, to give back to the community that has supported us for 50 years,” said Ryan Daniel, CEO of Metro Bus. “We care about our community and those who use our services. The food drive is a great way to support our neighbors who are in need. We appreciate the help of our partner businesses and their employees and the efforts of the food shelves receiving donations from the Jolly Trolley.”

Jolly Trolley beneficiaries St. Cloud Salvation Army and Catholic Charities qualify for matching funds from The Charity Challenge via the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation and Central Minnesota Community Foundation. The Charity Challenge matches every dollar donated to participating food shelves (up to $100,000) through Dec. 31.

The food drive, formerly called Fill the Flyer, began in 2011. Since then it has collected more nearly 30,000 pounds of food and $18,000.
